Blender interviews Joe - posted 14.07

Blender.com published an interview with Joe Elliott today:

After thirty years of selling out stadiums worldwide with Def Leppard, Joe Elliott has returned to his musical roots, teaming up with London barroom rockers the Quireboys to produce My Regeneration, a collection of under-appreciated classics from Mott the Hoople-related projects like Mott, British Lions, and Ian Hunter. Anyone who knows Elliott, and his loudly-proclaimed love for the '70s English rockers, is surely not surprised by this release, but fans of Def Leppard who might be in the dark about Mott shouldn't be either—Leppard have long been inspired by that band's talent for memorable riffage and tunes equally at home on the pub jukebox and on an arena stage.

Elliott formed the band, called the Down 'n' Outz, when called upon to put together an opening set for Mott The Hoople's reunion shows in London last year. How enjoyable and productive was the experience? Well, Elliott is already discussing a five year plan for the Down 'n' Outz. Don't worry, though: Def Leppard aren't going anywhere. In fact, Elliott says, they're as busy as ever, which he conveyed during a phone call that took place minutes after Spain defeated Germany in the semifinals of the World Cup.

I'm assuming you've just watched the Germany/Spain match. Thoughts?
I couldn't believe it! I would have put my house on Germany winning on the form they've had the whole tournament. As with all sports, you just can never bet on anybody solidly. But Germany played so conservatively they didn't deserve to win. Spain and the Netherlands should be more exciting.
